About WireBarley
WireBarley is an international money transfer company serving over one million customers and 5,000 businesses across 520+ corridors, from seven sending countries to 46 receiving countries. The company is licensed and regulated in the US (FinCEN), Canada (FINTRAC), Australia (AUSTRAC), New Zealand (FSPR) and South Korea (MOEF). WireBarley partners with Visa, MoneyGram, Alipay, WeChat and Thunes, among others.
The Challenge
WireBarley faced three overlapping problems. Account takeover attempts were a growing concern as the platform scaled across markets. Manual review processes couldn’t keep pace with rising transaction volumes, and the team was spending too much time investigating alerts that turned out to be legitimate. The data available to the fraud team wasn’t deep enough to catch sophisticated patterns, particularly around account takeover, where a compromised account can look normal on the surface.
The team needed a way to detect fraud in real time, reduce the manual workload and get access to richer data without adding more tools to an already fragmented tech stack.
“We were running compliance checks across different systems in different markets, and nothing talked to each other. Every new jurisdiction meant another manual process layered on top. We needed one view of risk across all of our operations.”

Fragmented tools create blind spots. SEON brings fraud detection, transaction monitoring and compliance workflows into a single view.

Why SEON
WireBarley selected SEON to consolidate fraud, identity verification and AML compliance into a single platform, replacing multiple separate tools. This was a priority for the team.
SEON’s digital footprint data addressed the gap the team had identified. Email and phone lookups, IP analysis, device fingerprinting and social media profiling gave the fraud team visibility into who was behind each transaction that their previous tools couldn’t provide. That depth of data is what makes account takeover attempts easier to spot: a legitimate account suddenly showing unfamiliar digital signals stands out when there’s enough context to compare against.
Implementation was straightforward through API integration, connecting SEON to WireBarley’s existing infrastructure without disrupting live operations.
“What set SEON apart was how the team worked with us. Within three weeks, they had engaged our key stakeholders, worked through our technical requirements and demonstrated capabilities that went beyond what we were seeing from other providers. It was clear this was a team that understood our business, not just a product demo.”

What Changed
Real-time risk scoring replaced manual review
Transactions that previously required manual investigation are now evaluated in real time through SEON’s risk scoring. The fraud team moved from reacting to incidents after they occurred to catching suspicious activity as it happens, including account takeover attempts that manual checks were missing.
Fewer false positives
With richer data behind each transaction, the team can distinguish between legitimate customers and suspicious accounts with more confidence. This means fewer false alerts and less time spent clearing them.
Automated compliance workflows
SEON allowed WireBarley to automate parts of its compliance process that had been handled manually. Transaction monitoring and AML screening now run through the same platform as fraud detection, reducing the operational burden and keeping compliance workflows consistent across markets. SEON automates OFAC, sanctions and PEP screening as part of WireBarley’s compliance process, replacing what had previously required manual checks.
“SEON’s rule flexibility has changed how much work lands on our team. The share of transactions escalated for manual review dropped from 21.46% to 2.82% year over year, and our alert volume is down 77%, all without increasing our risk exposure. Our analysts now spend their time on the cases that matter.”

Conclusion
WireBarley came to SEON looking for deeper data, less manual work and fewer tools to manage. SEON delivered on all three: digital footprint data that catches what surface-level checks miss, real-time risk scoring that replaced manual review, and a single platform covering fraud, identity verification and AML compliance. The same system now supports WireBarley’s operations across its full global corridor network.
How Bilt Reduced Chargebacks
“SEON’s incredibly flexible rule writing and ease of launch allow us to respond quickly to emerging fraud threats.”
